I've been at the basketball here at the Olympics and being an Aussie Bulls fan have been closely watching the progress of Anstey and Tarlac.
I really believe that the Bulls have made the wrong decision in letting Anstey go. He has height, a sweet jumper, agility and good rebounding skills and although my ability to watch Bulls games is extremly limited from what I saw there were moments last season where he was beginning to realise his potential.
Here at the Olympics Anstey's main problem, his lack of bulk, has been shown up as he has struggled to make his presence felt in the paint against some of the other 7 footers. However he has still managed to make an impact with some solid defensive work and a consistant mid-range jumper.
Tarlac has been getting plenty of minutes for the Croatians but has been somewhat dissapointing. He is certainly a strong looking 6-10 and I saw him grab some good boards, however I have seen nothing to indicate he has a strong offensive game as Croatia havent used him in many of their plays. He also isnt the quickest big man you have ever seen in you life. I really cant see what it is he could add to the Bulls other than more mediocrity and the odd rebound.

That was my impression too, though here in Ann Arbor we probably get about as many Bulls games as Down Under. He seems to play with a lot of desire, too. Sometimes that leads to improvement, and he's still fairly young.
Yeah, that's probably one reason he wound up in quick foul trouble so often. Well, you can't have everything

Sean Stephens has made a mistake:
- - - 8< - - - [cut!]
Tarlac is not Croatian... He's from Yugoslavia.

Wow, I missed that bit of Krausian mischief. Consider: weight-rooms they have everywhere, and I'll bet CAnstey was known to be a likely Aussie team pick some time ago. I wonder what would have happened if he had been lap-doggish enough to comply?
