This is the point where we can finally say 'lets strap it on and see what can happen with this group'. And while many people get doe eyes in the summer and start all kinds of crazy talk about how good we're about to be we can finally look at a roster with at least *some* NBA level talent and a team who has no ready excuse for not winning 25-35 games right now. BTW that is still a crappy team but at least it is one that will look like it belongs in the league most nights.
As it stands right now there is very little reason to wait for Crawford to become a pg. He is either a sg right now or he is gone. There is so much buzz about this guy which is fine but the reality is we are still talking about someone who hasn't accomplished anything in this league, injury or not. This is make or break for him.
The pathetic pick that was Fizer will only become more pathetic as time roles on. The guy couldn't beat out old man pain-in-the-ass Oakley last year at pf and certainly will not be given any chance to compete with Chandler at that spot. If he doesn't wrap his mind around coming off the bench and playing at least some defense then it is going to be a long painful year for him.
For all the talk about Chandler going on there are still some huge unanswered questions about him. He clearly is never going to play sf in the NBA and unless he comes back this year with some kind of game with his back to the basket much of his athleticism will go to waste.
I don't think Eddie Robinson really wants to play. The fact that his year long dodge didn't raise a single eye-brow among sports writers only tells you how lax and whitewashed coverage of the team has been generally in town lo these several years.
And you know think about it.......
Off the top of my head Im going to say he shot over 50% from the field in Charlotte his last season there. And they didn't resign him. Now if Im Charlotte am I really gonna let that guy go?? Not unless he carries so other big issues and it is clearly about his heart. The guy doesn't want to take it to the basket and he evidently cannot play thru pain.
God I love Hassel and I really like picking Williams.

i just gotta reply to this.
As much as I'd like to say this team WILL win 35 games, it totally depends on player development and team chemistry, and health. Obviously if all goes well this team can pull down 40, but when was the last time things all went well?
I think its more if Crawford will fit in the Bulls game. I dont know, but i get a funny feeling. His name is always left out when anybody talks abt the future of this Bulls team. It's like Williams replaced him, and he is no longer needed or something. I personally find it disturbing that ppl Krause and Cartwright aren't proud of their backcourt duo in Williams and Crawford as they are in Curry and Chandler. If you ask me, both duos have almost equal talent and potential. It doesnt make sense except maybe Crawford doesnt have that much of a future here...
u missed a good post showing how Fizer was abt as agood a pick as u could get in his draft year. frankly, i think he's a good bench player to come in and bring instant offense. some nights he puts down 20/25 points... dont know how u can complain abt that kind of production from a 6th man, even though he's probably not even our best bench player.
I think he'll eventually be able to put th emoves on many PF's in the league, not to mention his height. wait and see where this guy goes. I know one thing, he's a good competitor and that makes a good player even better.
can't argue with u on that. the only thing i think would be different is that when the team has a good chance to win and u are playing with good players, u want to put more in, and I think that will happen this year.
again, I'd like to reiterate my feeling that this team *can* be better than the Kings in a few yrs down the road.
With Fizer, ERob, Hassel and one more banging center coming off the bench... look out.

he played for them only for 2 years, so no bird rigths. The Bulls' offer was too high.

Drafting a guy at 4 who has no clear role on the team is not a good pick. Drafts don't happen in vacumns. When you're best player is a 4 and you spend your next lottery pick on a 4 that is just plain stupid. You are tying a huge milstone around the neck of that pick and Fizer has shown all the earmarks of a guy that has no idea in hell what his role is.
Miller would have been a far better pick considering that what the team needed was ballhandling and out side shooting.

I wouldn't argue that the draft was weak but that does not excuse a team from making a pick that makes no sense for them. Whether a great player comes out of that draft or not is irrelevant. The fact is that Fizer was drafted by a team that could make no use of his skills, regardless of what level they are. Conversely Miller, who I agree is not going to make a run for the hall of fame, was far more suited to *immediately* address very real needs the Bulls had. Fizer has also been on the trading block for sometime now and has not been able to crack the starting lineup, or even be the first guy off the bench on a team that hasn't won 20 games with him. Drafts do not exist in vacumns but can and should be judged by how well they address the needs of a team.
Fizer wasn't just a bad pick he was a dumb pick.

I agree with this 100%, the Fizer pick has really hurt us. If they didn't want Mike Miller then why not trade the pick. Taking Fizer when we already had Brand was ridiculous. Even more upsetting to me is the fact that Fizer is still on the team and Brad Miller is gone. If we were going to trade someone it should have been Fizer. I guess we're back to hoping that he can develop into a decent 6th man.

but bulls dont need starters. they need quality backups/role players that fit into scheme of things on their team.
personally, i dont see a need to move Fizer. I think his D will improve, and he has good chance of being qualioty guy. its funny, cause since day one he has been mentioned in trades all the time, yet Krause never moved him in whatever deals he has made.
go figure. I dont think Fizer will be moved unless we get something good for him.

On 16 Jul 2002 18:21:52 GMT, someone whose name is
I think he'll probably do it in the future. Fizer has future in this team, but before trading him Krause's waiting him to put up some good numbers to have his trade valuse raise, as it happened last season with Artest and Miller.

Whats the story here? Do things like this really happen? Could Portland have made this deal and backed out at the last minute? Seems to me like the Bulls would have made a stink if they did... or does this happen all the time? I can't imagine using your #1 pick on a player you don't really want unless you were 100% certain the deal was going to happen.
I'm not a Mike Miller fan, I don't really know much about him except that he was ROY. I simply don't like the pick of Fizer. It seems to me like it was a waste of a pick but I guess hes young enough that he can still improve a bit.
